Dragons Nearly Beat Another Top Team in the League

Tough losses this season to some of the stronger softball programs in the Flint Metro League have somewhat stole the thunder of an otherwise successful year for the Dragons. With only 2 league games left vs Lapeer East this Monday the Dragons hope to finish 9-9 in the Metro. The Dragons have beaten 3 of the teams that will finish ahead of them in the standings. And they nearly beat first place Oxford and 2nd place Ortonville-Brandon losing by 1 run to each, which will certainly increase expectations for next year's team.

Thursday night the ladies traveled to Ortonville-Brandon. The first game was a nail-biter with both pitchers throwing shut-outs through the end of the 7th inning. In the bottom of the 8th inning with 1 out Brandon found a way to turn on the score board taking advantage of a walk and stringing together a couple singles to win the game 1-0. Hayley Cruthers pitched the complete game for the Dragons with a great defensive effort from team.

The Dragons managed only 4 hits in the game led by Sydney Saidoo who went 2-3 including a big hit in the top of the 8th inning to give the ladies a chance to win. Nicole VanCamp and Michaela Krusina had the other 2 hits for Creek.

The second game wasn't at all like the opener with the Dragons losing 11-1 in 5 innings. Again the Dragons only managed 4 hits led by Hayley Cruthers with 2 hits including a double and stolen base. Erin Hescott also doubled, stole a base, and scored the only run for Creek on an RBI single by Sydney Saidoo.

With 4 games remaining in the regular season before their pre-district game vs Kearsley the Dragons look to improve their overall record to their best ever under 5th year head coach Rick Clolinger. They've already done that with their league record as they try to put together a couple wins and build momentum going into the rubber-game versus Kearsley in Districts.
