Dragons Finish Regular Season With 22-15 Record
The Dragons got off to a slow start in the opener in their final appearance of the season at the Jacob Brisendine Softball Complex Thursday night versus Carman-Ainsworth. The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the 5th inning when the Dragons took advantage of a couple walks and key RBI single by senior Chris Burt scoring senior Nicole VanCamp, which proved to be the game winning run and a fitting way for 2 4-year starters to play on Senior Night.
They added 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning with a leadoff single by junior Meagan Photiou, a sacrifice bunt by junior Nicole Terry who reached base on error, an RBI single by freshman Hayley Cruthers, and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Michaela Krusina. Hayley Cruthers went the distance for the Dragons pitching a 1-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts winning the game 4-0.
The nightcap was close until the bottom of the 3rd inning as the Dragons began to pour on the offense pulling away from Carman eventually winning the game 14-4 in 6 innings. Junior Adilita Roiter used slap-hitting and awesome speed to go 4-4 with 2 stolen bases and score 3 runs. Junior Meagan Photiou had 2 hits with 2 RBIs and scored a run. Senior Nicole VanCamp had 3 hits, scored a run, with the final 2 RBIs on her game-ending single. Freshman Hayley Cruthers had 3 hits including her 20th double of the season, 6th triple with an RBI, 2 stolen bases, a walk, and scored 3 runs. She also pitched the complete game scattering 6 hits with 6 strikeouts, while allowing 2 earned runs.
The Dragons finished the regular season with the highest win total (22) under 5th year head coach Rick Clolinger. They'll now turn their efforts towards preparing for the pre-district game versus the Kearsley Hornets, which will be played on Tuesday, June 1st at Flushing High School at 4:00pm. To win consecutive district titles they'll have to win their next 3 games. The winner of the pre-district game will face Carman-Ainsworth on Saturday and that winner will play in the championship game also on Saturday. So, come on out and cheer on your 2010 Swartz Creek Dragons Tuesday night in Flushing for what should be a great game.
