Varsity Wins 2 Loses 1 at Bay City Western

Saturday April 23, 2011 - Bay City Western Tournament

Tawas 12, Swartz Creek 1

The day started out pretty ugly for the Dragons who certainly performed well below their capability losing to Tawas 12-1.  There were just too many mental and physical mistakes to overcome.  The ladies managed to get 5 hits led by Adilita Roiter's 2 slap singles. Hayley Cruthers and Gabby Deering each had singles and Erin Hescott had a double.  Michaela Krusina scored the lone run for Creek after receiving a walk.

The worst part about the game was the fact that Tawas only had 5 hits. It was the numerous errors, passed balls, wild pitches and mental lapses that did the Dragons in.  Ashlyn Beck & Allie Jo Brookman shared the pitching duties in the 4 1/2 inning game ended by mercy rule.

Swartz Creek 8, Petoskey 5

After a break from the wind and lunch, the Dragon's regrouped and came out ready to face Petoskey, who had just beat Tawas quite soundly.  Allie Jo Brookman pitched the complete game for the Dragons allowing just 6 hits.  But, the biggest difference was the better defensive play and energy level for the team. They definitely came out ready to play. Creek was down 4-3 early on before mounting a comeback scoring 3 runs in the 4th inning and 1 in the 5th and 6th innings holding on for the 8-5 win.

Five girls had hits in the game led by Michaela Krusina's RBI triple and 2 walks. Meagan Photiou had a double, 2 walks, an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Lauren Adas scored 2 runs with a hit.  Gabby Deering also singled. Hayley Cruthers singled with an RBI and scored a run.

Swartz Creek 8, Hemlock 4

The ladies carried some newfound momentum into the final game of the day versus Hemlock. Although the offense started out slowly, the pitching and defense was strong throughout the game.  Ashlyn Beck pitched the complete game scattering 5 hits with 8 strike outs.  The game was close until the 4th inning when the bats came to life to score 5 runs, which proved to be enough to get the ladies the 8-4 win.

The Dragon's had 12 hits in the game.  Allie Jo Brookman had 3 hits including a triple and run scored.  Hayley Cruthers also had 3 hits with a triple, double, and scored 2 runs with 3 RBIs. Andrea Aldridge had 2 hits, run scored, 2 stolen bases, and an RBI with 2 sacrifice bunts.  Ashley Bush added a hit and run scored. Michaela Krusina had a Home Run and 2 RBIs. Gabby Deering, Adilita Roiter, and Lauren Adas each had singles.

The Dragons will travel to Frankenmuth next Tuesday with a 4-3 record and hope to play in warmer weather than the 30mph steady wind and cloud cover prevented in Bay City today.
