Varsity Finishes 2-1 in Tourney


Swartz Creek goes 2-1 on Saturday losing 3-2 to Flushing in the championship game. 

Swartz Creek 13  New Lothrop 11  - The Dragons jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the Hornets fought back to take a 11-9 lead going into the 6th inning.  Creek scored 4 runs to take the lead and hold on for the win.  For Creek Allie Jo Brookman led the Dragons with 2 hits and 5 RBIs including a home run and double and also pitched 5 2/3 innings.  Meagan Photiou had 3 hits including a double and scored 2 runs. Hayley Cruthers had a triple & double and scored 3 runs. Gabby Deering had 2 hits including a double, scored 2 runs, and 4 RBIs.  Michaela Krusina hit a solo home run, her 3rd of the season. Andrea Aldridge, Lauren Adas, and Adilita Roiter also singled for the Dragons.

Swartz Creek 17  North Branch 2  -  Ashlyn Beck started on the mound allowing 2 runs in 4 innings with Meagan Photiou providing scoreless relief in the 5th.  7 different girls had hits for the Dragons.  Photiou had 3 hits and 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs. Cruthers had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Krusina had 2 doubles with 2 RBIs and scored twice. Deering had 2 hits and scored twice. Every Dragon scored in the game. Ashley Bush had 3 RBIs with a double a sacrifice fly. Erin Hescott had a hit and scored twice.

Flushing 3  Swartz Creek 2  -  The Dragons out hit the Raiders, but left too many runners stranded.  Brookman pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for Creek allowing 2 runs with Photiou coming in relief to finish the game. Flushing took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd with Creek cutting the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th with Lauren Adas' RBI knocking in Brookman.  In the bottom of the 5th Cruthers led off with a home run to tie the game. Flushing scored in the top of the 6th with what proved to be the winning run taking advantage of a couple of infield hits.  For Creek Cruthers had 2 hits with an RBI and scored a run. Adas had 2 hits and an RBI. Bush had 2 hits including a double. Aldridge and Brookman also singled in the game

It was a day of well played ball with Creek cutting down on the mental and physical mistakes as well as getting the bats going.  The ladies improved their record on the season to 7-4 and will host league foe Clio on Monday at 4pm.
