It was cold, windy, and sprinkling all afternoon and into the evening at Holly on Tuesday, but that didn't stop the Dragons bats from cooking up 23 total runs in the metro league double header. Combine that with solid pitching and good defense and you get a couple of wins taking their league record to 5-1 and overall record to 10-5.
In the first inning of the opener Hayley Cruthers hit a towering home run over the 240' right field fence, her 4th homer on the season and also turned out to be the game winning hit/run. But the Dragons weren't finished as they went on to score 11 runs to win 11-0. Cruthers would go on to be walked 3 times including a walk with the bases loaded, scoring 4 runs with 2 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Ashlyn Beck pitched the entire game to get the win on a 3 hit shutout.
Michaela Krusina scored twice on 3 hits including a triple with 5 RBIs. Lauren Adas added a couple singles, RBI, and run scored. Ashley Bush, Gabby Deering, and Allie Jo Brookman also had singles in the game. Adilita Roiter scored 3 runs on a couple walks.
In the nightcap the ladies came out swinging and never looked back ending the game by mercy rule in the 5th inning with a 12-2 win. Cruthers continued to thrash the Bronchos pitching going 3-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, scoring 3 runs, and another walk with the bases loaded during her final at-bat of the game. Krusina smashed another 3 hits including 2 more triples, scored 2 runs, and had a couple more RBIs. Deering added another 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Brookman had a couple hits and scored twice. Erin Hescott had a couple hits including a double and scored. Roiter and Meagan Photiou each singled in the game.
Photiou started the game on the mound pitching 2 innings giving up 2 runs. Brookman came in to finish throwing 3 scoreless innings with 4 strike outs. The Dragons travel to Kearsley on Thursday to round out the week of action in the Flint Metro League. Last year they split with the Hornets, before losing a close game in districts to end their season.
