The Dragons are on a roll. Unfortunately that roll is in the wrong direction. They've lost 7 of their last 8 games now with a pair of lackluster performances at Brandon tonight taking their overall record to 11-12 and league record to 5-7. If they are to have any chance at finishing above .500 on the season or in the Metro League, then they must step up their play significantly and immediately. Tonight's games resembled middle school ball more than varsity.
In the first game the ladies were actually ahead going into the bottom of the 4th inning when Brandon mounted a 6-hit 5-run effort to take the lead, which proved to be too much for the Dragons to overcome. Allie Jo Brookman pitched the first 3 2/3 innings taking the loss with Ashlyn Beck coming on in relief pitching the last 2 1/3 innings giving up on 1 of the 7 runs scored in the 7-5 loss. The Dragons only managed 4 hits by Brookman, Katie O'Brien, Emily Weekly, and Andrea Aldridge. Aldridge had 3 RBIs and O'Brien & Weekly had an RBI apiece.
In the nightcap the Dragons were never in the game. Meagan Photiou & Beck split the pitching duties in the 10-6 loss. Hayley Cruthers led off the game with a triple and scored on an error, but that's as close as the game would ever be. The ladies did hit the ball better accumulating 8 hits, but errors and being out-hustled by Brandon would be enough to lose the game. Cruthers scored twice with 3 hits. Aldridge had a hit and scored twice. Gabby Deering had 2 hits and scored. Michaela Krusina had a 3 RBI double and another hit. Lauren Adas also scored after receiving a walk.
Fans of the Dragons hope to see a better effort on Thursday night when they play their final regular season home game versus the Lapeer East Eagles.
