The Dragons travelled to Kearsley for a 4-game tournament and the weather was perfect. The ladies had their moments, but the tough competition proved to be too much as they dropped all 4 games.
In the opener vs Bay City Western the game was well played until the last inning (5th 1:15 time limits) when a couple of errors, lack of hits/runs, wild pitches, and passed balls caught up to them losing by a score of 7-2. Creek only had 5 hits in the game. Andrea Aldridge, Gabby Deering, Erin Hescott, Emily Weekly, and Ashley Bush each had one hit with Deering & Bush scoring a run apiece. Ashyln Beck pitched the entire game.
In the second game versus Pinckney the ladies came out hitting and scoring. The game was tied 5-5 requiring the international tie rule when they lost in the bottom of the 7th inning 6-5. Creek had 11 hits in the game, but stranded too many runners. Hayley Cruthers led off the game with a home run, had 2 walks, and scored twice. Gabby Deering had 2 hits , 2 walks, and scored. Michaela Krusina had 2 hits. Bush had 2 hits and an RBI. Aldridge, Weekly, Allie Jo Brookman, and Meagan Photiou had a hit each. Photiou pitched the entire game for the Dragons.
Game 3 vs Frankenmuth was never really close as the Dragons struck out 10 times in 5 innings only managing 2 hits in the 7-1 loss. Cruthers was 1-2 with a walk and hit her second home run of the day. Photiou had the only other hit for Creek. Beck & Brookman pitched for the Dragons.
The ladies took a 2-1 lead into the 5th inning against the host and league foe Kearsley Hornets in the final game of the day, but once again could not hold on for the win losing 5-2. The ladies only managed 4 hits in 6 innings. Cruthers and Weekly had a hit apiece, while Krusina and Brookman each had a double. Krusina & Photiou scored the only runs for Creek. Photiou, Beck, and Brookman pitched for the Dragons.
Cruthers first home run of the day tied the school single-season record of 7 by teammate Krusina. Her second home run on the day was her 8th on the season and is now the current school record. Krusina has 5 this year, Deering has 2, and Brookman 1.
Next week is the last week of the regular season. The ladies travel to Fenton on Monday and Carman-Ainsworth on Thursday. The day after Memorial Day, Tuesday May 31st, Creek will host the districts and play Flushing in a pre-district game. That is when single-game elimination begins.
