The Dragons came out ready to play tonight in another windy and cold evening for softball. They hosted a league opponent (Holly Bronchos) and improved their Flint Metro League record to 3-1 with a couple of one-sided victories. Their overall record improved to 12-3, which is their best start to a season in decades and when combined with their recent wins over pre-season ranked opponents, they've earned an honorable mention in the division 1 high school rankings this week.

Holly got an early and their only lead in the first inning on a couple singles and stolen base to go up 1-0. Carah Pletscher led off for the Dragons with a walk. Hayley Cruthers reached base on an error. But, 3 straight fly-ball outs ended the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning the flood gates opened for the Dragons as they scored 8 runs to take an 8-1 lead. Lauren Adas started with a walk. Ashlyn Beck singled to put runners on the corners with one out before Andrea Aldridge walked to load the bases. Pletscher doubled to clear the bases knocking in 3 runs. Cruthers had a bunt single to put runners on the corners again. Gabby Deering also had a bunt single to load the bases. Michaela Krusina doubled scoring Pletscher and Cruthers. AJ Brookman doubled scoring Deering and Krusina. Hanna Sayles came into courtesy run for Brookman and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Hailey Fox grounded out, but scored Sayles on the play. Another ground out ended the inning with Creek in command.
In the top of the 5th Holly scored again on a dropped 3rd strike, single, and couple ground outs to make it 8-2. But, the Dragons came right back in the bottom of the 5th with a lead off walk by Fox, who then stole second base, advanced to 3rd base on a passed ball, then scored on an error that got Abby McGuire to first base. Emily Weekly reached base on error with McGuire advancing to 3rd on the play. A bunt single by Sayles resulted in a tag out of McGuire at home. Pletscher singled to score Weekly before the inning ended. Brookman had a single in the 6th, but did not score.
Brookman pitched 7 innings for Creek with 3 strike outs and allowed 4 hits and 1 earned run to get the win.

The Dragons had some previous let downs concerning double headers, either not playing their best in the first or second games of double headers. That was not a problem tonight. Despite the wicked cold and windy conditions, they were ready to play in the nightcap.
In the first inning Pletscher singled advancing to second base on an error by the outfielder. Sayles came into courtesy run for Pletscher. Cruthers laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Sayles to 3rd base. Deering's sacrifice fly scored Sayles before the inning ended. Brookman singled and Aldridge had a bunt single in the bottom of the second, but were stranded.
In the bottom of the 3rd Cruthers led off with a double, then stole 3rd base. Krusina had a bunt single to put runners on the corners, then stole 2nd base. Brookman singled to score Cruthers and put runners on the corners again. Fox's sacrifice bunt scored Krusina and pushed Brookman to 2nd base before the inning ended with Creek up 3-0.
Beck singled with Emily Rodriguez pinch running for her. Rodriguez stole second base and advanced to 3rd base on a bunt single by Aldridge. Aldridge stole second and Rodriguez scored on a ground out by Pletscher. Cruthers had a bunt single that put runners on the corners again, before advancing to 2nd base on a wild pitch that scored Aldridge as well and then sent Cruthers to third base on the throw. Deering reached base on a fielder's choice with Weekly coming into pinch run. Weekly stole second before Krusina walked to load the bases. Brookman reached base on a fielder's choice that resulted in a force out of Cruthers at home, but Weekly scored on an errant throw by the catcher on the play. Fox walked to reload the bases. Adas walked to score Krusina and keep the bases loaded. But, that would be it for the inning with Creek up 7-0.
In the bottom of the 5th Creek would end the game by the run rule as Aldridge led off with a walk. Pletscher singled to put runners on the corners. Sayles came into courtesy run for Pletscher and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Cruthers smashed a double off the fence to score Aldridge and Sayles. Krusina and Brookman walked to load the bases again. Cruthers scored on a wild pitch to end the game 10-0 by mercy rule.
Pletscher pitched the 5 inning game for the Dragons allowing only 2 hits with 7 strikeouts to get the win.
The Dragons improved their league record to 3-1 and overall record to 12-3. They head to Bay City for a 3-game round robin versus Hemlock, Petoskey, and Bay City Western on Saturday.
