Creek Wins Both at Clio

The Dragons just put together two more extremely well played games to win both games of the double header against their league foe Clio Mustangs.  The wins improved their league record to 5-1 and overall record to 17-3.  There would be no letdown from their recent tourney success in Bay City.  In fact, the only times that the game's were close was prior to the first pitches.  Again...Great Pitching....Great Defense....and Oh Some Kinda' Hitting!

Swartz Creek 14  Clio 1

In the first inning with 2 outs Gabby Deering hit a towering solo home run to center field, her second on the season to put Creek up 1-0 after 1.  Clio scored their only run of the day on a walk, error, and double to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning.

Carah Pletscher reached base on error in the top of the third.  Hayley Cruthers battled back from an 0-2 count to join the home run party hitting another ball out to center field, her 5th on the season to make the score 3-1, which would prove to be all the lady's would need....but they weren't done yet.

AJ Brookman led off the 4th inning with another towering home run, this time to left field, after battling the pitcher fouling off several pitches before the blast.  Hailey Fox and Lauren Adas followed with back-to-back singles putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Emily Rodriguez came into courtesy run for Adas.  Ashlyn Beck laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.  Andrea Aldridge had a bunt single to score Fox and push Rodriguez to 3rd. Aldridge stole 2nd before Pletscher singled to score Aldridge and Rodriguez.  Cruthers singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd and then Deering smashed another home run over the center field fence, her 3rd on the season.

But the Dragons were not done.  Michaela Krusina singled.  Brookman reached base on error.  Fox reached on a fielders choice, but Krusina was forced out at third on the play.  Adas singled scoring Brookman.  Beck singled scoring Fox, but Adas was tagged out at home on the play.  But, the lady's scored 9 runs to go up 12-1.

In the top of the 5th Pletscher reached base on error again with Cruthers smacking a double that sent Pletscher to 3rd putting runners on the corners.  Deering singled to score Pletscher and move Cruthers to 3rd on the throw.  A double steal put Deering at 2nd and Cruthers home to score.  Krusina singled, but that was it for the scoring in this inning putting Creek up 14-1.

Three quick outs in the bottom of the 5th ended the game by the run rule 14-1.  Brookman pitched the game for the Dragons only allowing 2 hits with the only run scoring being unearned.  Again there were several great defensive plays in the game with the team defending the bunt very well, Fox playing outstanding 2nd base, and Cruthers eating up everything near short stop.  Maybe the defensive play of the game was on a hit to the fence in center field that Aldridge threw to the cut off Cruthers who threw a dart on the plate to Adas at home who hung onto the ball and tagged out the runner attempting to score.

And there would be no letdown in the nightcap with the Dragons scoring 4 in the first inning hitting the ball hard and all over the place.  Pletscher led off with a single with Emily Weekly coming into courtesy run. Cruthers singled advancing to 2nd on the throw with Weekly sliding safely into 3rd.  Deering continued her hitting dominance singling and scoring Weekly with Cruthers stopping at 3rd.  Krusina walked to load the bases.  Brookman ripped a double scoring Cruthers and Deering sending Krusina to 3rd.  Adas singled scoring Krusina, but Brookman was thrown out at the plate to end the inning with Creek up 4-0.

In the second inning Alrdridge led off with a bunt single followed by a Pletscher double to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with Weekly coming into courtesy run.  Cruthers rocket line drive at the 2nd baseman was dropped allowing her to reach 1st safely, while scoring Aldridge and moving Weekly to 3rd.  Weekly scored on a wild pitch that enabled Cruthers to make it all the way to 3rd base on the play.   A ground out by Deering scored Cruthers, which would end the scoring for the inning putting Creek up 7-0.

More hard hitting allowed Pletscher and Cruthers to reach base on error again with Weekly coming into courtesy run.  Deering singled scoring Weekly with Cruthers stopping at 2nd.  Brookman singled to load the bases.  Fox singled to score Cruthers and keep the bases loaded. But, that would be it for the scoring this time with the Dragons up 9-0.

Deering and Brookman reached on error in the top of the 6th.  Fox cracked another double off the fence to score Deering and put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Abby McGuire came into the game to pinch hit and ended up crushing the longest home run on the day and again to center field, making the score 13-0 and after a quick bottom half of the inning ended the game by mercy.

Pletscher pitched the entire game for the Dragons scattering 4 hits with 7 strikeouts to get the shutout and win.

After the game the coach announced to the players that they were now ranked 9th in the division 1 softall coaches poll, which is another first for the program.
