Varsity Splits Double Header at Birch Run

The Dragons scored 18 runs on 24 hits in both games Thursday night, but errors proved costly in the second game. They won the first game 14-3, but lost the nightcap 8-4. The ladies are now 3-1 on the season heading into a 3-game round robin tournament in Owosso on Saturday.

In the first game the Dragons had a 3-1 lead after 3, but finished the Panthers off in 5 innings after scoring 10 runs in the 4th inning to put the game well out of reach. Hayley Cruthers and Meagan Photiou pitched for Creek scattering 4 hits, while only allowing 2 earned runs.

The Dragons got off the bus ready to hit the ball using 15 hits to score 14 runs in the opener. Hayley Cruthers went 3-4 with a triple, single, 2-run homer, and 2 RBIs. Gabby Deering was also 3-4 with 3 singles, scoring twice, and 2 RBIs. Nicole VanCamp, Adilita Roiter, Michaela Krusina, and Erin Hescott had 2 hits each.


The second game was close with the Dragons behind 1-0 until the 4th inning when the Panthers scored 5 runs. Creek out hit the Panthers 9-6, but had too many untimely errors that they could not overcome. Meagan Photiou had 2 singles. Nicole VanCamp had a double, single, and scored a run. Hayley Cruthers had a triple, double, and scored a run. Stephanie Rett had a pinch-hit double and RBI in the 7th inning. And Michaela Krusina had a 2-run homer.
