Varsity Sweeps Linden

The Linden Eagles are likely to have nightmares of the sound of the Dragons bats and visions of them rounding the bases tonight. The Dragons scored 31 runs in the double-header tonight! And in the first game, which more resembled a football score, they needed 17 runs to get the win.

The game was close until the 4th inning when the Dragons went ahead 16-10. But the Eagles came back in the 5th inning to make it 16-14, and again 6th inning making it 17-15. But, the Dragons hung on to get the win with the final score of 17-15.

Meagan Photiou was 2-5 and scored 3 runs with 2 RBIs. She also came on in relief early in the game to pitch the final 5 innings and get the win. Hayley Cruthers was 3-6 and scored 4 runs with 4 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Nicole VanCamp went 3-4 and scored a couple runs with 2 RBIs. Michaela Krusina got her 4th Home Run of the season with 3 RBIs. Sydney Saidoo went 2-5 and scored 3 runs.

In the nightcap, the Dragons bats were busy again, but the game was only 5-3 entering the 6th inning when the ladies opened the flood gates scoring 9 runs to put the game out of reach. In probably her finest game of the season, Nicole Terry pitched tremendously keeping the Eagles off balance never letting them get any momentum. Nicole scattered 8 hits in 6 innings with 4 strikeouts picking up the win.

Meagan Photiou was 2-5 including a 2-out 3-RBI base clearing single in the 6th inning. Michaela Krusina had a pair of doubles and scored 3 runs. Chris Burt hit her second home run of the season with 2 RBIs. Sydney Saidoo went 4-4 and scored 3 runs with 3 RBIs.

The Dragons improved their overall record to 9-5 and league record to 3-1. Last season the Dragons finished 6-12 in the Flint Metro League with an overall record of 17-21. They are averaging 9 runs per game and getting hits and run production from the entire lineup with a team batting average of .359. But, that's not all. Last year the Dragons had one home run, albiet a pretty memorable one by Michaela Krusina in the the Districts. This year they already have 8 home runs with a team slugging percentage of .498. With an offensive attack like that, they're confidence is growing by the game.

The Dragons travel to Flint Powers this Thursday to take on the Chargers in a double-header beginning at 4:00pm. Last year the games were rained out and never made up. As of tonight the weather forecast is looking great for Thursday. So, if you want to see some exciting softball....come on out to see your 2010 Swartz Creek Varsity Softball Team.
