Varsity Finishes 2-1 at Dragon Invitational

The weather was beautiful in Swartz Creek for the annual Dragon Invitational Tournament as the Dragons would attempt to rebound from disappointing losses at Lapeer West Friday. And they did getting 2 wins before losing in the championship game. The Dragons improved their overall record to 18-11 exceeding last year's 17 regular season victories with 8 games at hand.

In the first game, the Dragons beat Almont 6-5 with a complete game pitched by Hayley Cruthers scattering 10 hits with 5 strike outs. The game was 6-5 after 3 innings when both pitchers held the opposition scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Nicole VanCamp went 3-4 with an RBI. Meagan Photiou had 2 hits including a double and scored twice. Gabby Deering had 2 hits, a walk, and RBI. Adilita Roiter, Sydney Saidoo, and Michaela Krusina each had a hit. Chris Burt had an RBI double. Hayley Cruthers scored 2 runs with an RBI triple and walk.

The second game was all Creek as they mercied Clawson in 6 innings 10-0. Meagan Photiou pitched the first 5 innings with 5 strike outs while only allowing 2 hits. Nicole Terry pitched in relief retiring the side in order in the 6th inning.

Stephanie Rett had 2 doubles, an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Sheryl Dollinger, Sydney Saidoo, and Meagan Photiou each had hits. The ever-so-speedy Adilita Roiter had 2 hits. Hayley Cruthers had 2 hits including a 2 RBI double and scored 2 runs. Michaela Krusina had 3 hits, an RBI, and scored 2 runs.

In the championship game versus Midland, the Dragons trailed the whole game, but battled back to make the score 5-4 after the 5th inning. A 6 run 6th inning for Midland proved to be too much for Creek winning the game 11-4 and the tournament. The Dragons had 14 hits in the game, but stranded 12 runners ultimately costing them the game.

Meagan Photiou had 2 hits and an RBI. Hayley Cruthers had 2 hits including a 2 RBI double. Nicole VanCamp and Adilita Roiter each had 2 hits. Gabby Deering had 2 hits including a double and scored a run. Michaela Krusina had 2 hits including a double and sacrifice fly. Erin Hescott and Sydney Saidoo each had a hit.

And so with the wheels put back on the bus the Dragons host league foe and first place Oxford Monday night at 4:00pm. The Dragons lost to Oxford at the wintery Owosso tournament earlier this season by a score of 12-10.
