Dragons Sweep Lapeer East

 

The Dragons were firing on all cylinders Monday night at Lapeer East to improve their overall record to 7-2 and Flint Metro League record to 5-1.

Hayley Cruthers led off the game with a walk followed by a single by Carah Pletscher to put runners on 1st & 2nd with no outs.  They successfully performed a double steal to put runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Hailey Fox singled with 1 out and scored Cruthers and Pletscher.  Fox then stole 2nd.  Lauren Adas reached base on an error that sent Fox home to score, while Adas advanced to 2nd.  Ashley Dusseau hit a sacrifice fly to center field that moved Adas to 3rd with 2 away before scoring on a wild pitch.  Jamie Perigo walked, but was stranded as the Dragons took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the 1st.

 

3 up and 3 down for East ended the 1st inning.  Cruthers ripped a double with 1 out and then advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch.  AJ Brookman singled to score Cruthers followed by a single by Fox putting runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs.  They moved up the bases twice on 2 passed balls scoring Brookman and putting Fox on 3rd.  Fox would be stranded, but the Dragons added to their lead up 6-0.

 

A lead off walk for East tried to get things going for the Eagles, but she would be caught stealing on a throw from Adas to Cruthers.  The next batter hit a rocket line drive that was speared by 1st baseman AJ Brookman to further squash any rally.  The next batter struck out to end the inning.

 

Dusseau led off the Top of the 3rd with a single followed by a walk to Perigo and another walk to Emily Rodriguez.  Hanna Sayles reached base on a fileder's choice as East attempted to make a play at the plate, but could not prevent Dusseau from scoring.  With the bases loaded and no outs, Cruthers ripped another double that scored all 3 runners.  Cruthers would be stranded, but the Dragons increased their lead to 10-0.

 

Another quick 1-2-3 inning by the Dragons defense ended the 4th with the score still 10-0.  It remained the same through the top of the 5th when Sayles reached base on an error to start the inning.  Cruthers singled moving Sayles to 2nd base.  Pletscher doubled to score Sayles, but Cruthers was thrown out at the plate as Pletscher advanced to 3rd on the throw.  Tabby Miller came into courtesy run for Pletscher.  Brookman singled to score Miller followed by a walk to Fox.  Adas hit a sacrifice fly to move Brookman to 3rd and Fox to 2nd on the throw.  Dusseau walked to load the bases.  Perigo walked, which scored Brookman, but that's where the scoring ended with the Dragons up 13-0.

 

A walk and single put runners on the corners with 1 out in the bottom of the 5th inning.  The player on 3rd was tagged out at home plate by Adas on a wild pitch that bounced right back to Adas for an easy out and ended the game by the run rule.

 

Pletscher pitched for the Dragons allowing just 1 hit with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks.  Cruthers was 3-3 at the plate with 2 doubles, a walk, 3 RBIs, and scored 2 runs.  Pletscher had 2 hits including a double, RBI, and scored a run.  Brookman had 2 hits with 2 RBIs and scored twice.  Fox had 2 hits, 2 RBIs, a walk, and scored once.  Dusseau had a hit, scored, and 2 walks.

The nightcap went pretty much the same way for the Dragons.  As the home team in league play, they retired the first 2 batters quickly.  But, a long triple created the first scoring threat for East on the day.  Brookman struck out the next batter to keep East off the scoreboard.

 

Cruthers led off the bottom of the 1st by hitting the first pitch well over the center field fence for her 4th home run on the season.  Pletscher walked.  Fox laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, but Pletscher was tagged out trying to reach 3rd on a very close play to end the inning with the Dragons up 1-0.

 

Another 1-2-3 inning for the Dragons defense in the top of the 2nd kept the score 1-0.

 

Lauren Black led off the bottom of the 2nd with a walk.  Dusseau singled moving Black to 2nd.  Sayles ripped a double in the left center gap that scored Black and move Dusseau to 3rd.  A ground out by Miller scored Dusseau and moved Sayles to 3rd.  She would be stranded their, but not before the Dragons increased their lead to 3-0.

 

The Dragons retired the Eagles in order again in the top of the 3rd.

 

Pletscher singled to open the bottom of the 3rd for Creek.  Brookman doubled moving Pletscher to 3rd.  Rodriguez came into courtesy run for Brookman.  Pletscher scored on a wild pitch that moved Rodriguez to 3rd.  Fox hit a sharp single to score Rodriguez.  Black singled moving Fox to 2nd.  Dusseau walked to load the bases.  Sayles reached base on a fielder's choice the forced out Fox at the plate.  With 2 outs Miller singled to score Black and Dusseau and move Sayles to 3rd with Miller advancing to 2nd on the throw home.  Cruthers singled to score Sayles and Miller advancing to 2nd on the throw home.  Pletscher was hit by a pitch.  Perigo came into pinch run for Pletscher.  Cruthers and Perigo performed a double steal, but would be stranded as the Dragons took a 9-0 lead into the top of the 4th.

 

The Dragons held East scoreless again in the  top of the 4th.  Fox led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk for Creek.  A long double for Black moved Fox to 3rd.  A ground out to the right side of the infield by Adas scored Fox and moved Black to 3rd.  Dusseau smacked a double in the gap to score Black.  Sayles singled moving Dusseau to 3rd, before stealing 2nd on the next pitch.  Miller singled scoring Dusseau and moving Sayles to 3rd and advanced to 2nd on the throw.  Sayles scored on a wild pitch.  Cruthers walked.  Miller scored on a wild pitch with Cruthers advancing to 2nd.  Pletscher singled with Cruthers getting thrown out at the plate, while Pletscher advanced to 2nd on the throw home.  She would be stranded there, but the Dragons now had a 14-0 lead heading into the top of the 5th. 

 

A 1-out double for the Eagles created a scoring opportunity, but it was quickly stopped giving the Dragons another victory by the run rule.

 

Brookman pitched for Creek allowing 3 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts.  Cruthers had 2 hits including a Home Run with 3 RBIs, a walk, and scored once.  Pletscher had 2 hits with a walk and scored once.  Black had 2 hits including a double, scored 3 runs, and had a walk.  Dusseau had 2 hits, scored 3 runs, with a double, RBI, and walk.  Sayles had 2 hits including a double, RBI, and scored twice.  Miller had 2 hits, scored 3 runs, and had 4 RBIs. 

 

The Dragons will travel to Brandon on Wednesday for a league double-header make up game.
