The Dragons first time in the Michigan Stars tourney made for great competitive games and practice for the remainder of the season. The team finished with a 3-2 record on the weekend.
Swartz Creek 3 N. Farmington 2
N. Farmington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on an error, fielder's choice, and double. Creek went down in order in the bottom of the inning.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the 3rd on a 2-out single by Hayley Cruthers who then stole 2nd base. Carah Pletscher walked. AJ Brookman singled scoring Cruthers moving Pletscher to 3rd and advancing to 2nd on the throw. Hailey Fox hit hard line drive to center field for the final out and the score tied 1-1.
The Dragons kept NF off the board again in the top of the 4th. Lauren Adas singled with 1 away in the bottom of the 4th. Jamie Perigo came into courtesy run. Ashley Dusseau singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd. A bunt by Emily Rodriguez loaded the bases. Tabby Miller reached base on a fielder's choice to the pitcher who threw the ball home to get the forceout on Perigo at the plate. With 2 outs and the bases still loaded, Cruthers was walked, which scored Dusseau. And that's where the scoring would end with Creek up 2-1.
2 errors and a bunt tied the game in the top of the 5th. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 6th when the 1:20 minute time limit expired and Creek coming up for their final at-bats.
Adas led off with a single. Perigo came into courtesy run. A fielder's choice forced out Perigo at 2nd with Dusseau on 1st. Rodriguez bunted successfully putting runners on the corners. With 2 outs Cruthers received another intentional walk to load the bases. Pletscher singled to score Dusseau and give the Dragons the win 3-2.
Brookman pitched for Creek allowing no earned runs on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts. Adas & Rodriguez had 2 hits each. Dusseau had a hit and scored 2 runs. Cruthers, Pletscher, & Brookman each had a hit and RBI with Cruthers also scoring.
Dakota 2 Swartz Creek 1
Cruthers walked to open the game followed by a single by Pletscher to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, but they would be stranded. Dakota failed to score in the bottom of the 1st as well.
Dusseau singled in the 2nd with 2 outs. Hanna Sayles was hit by a pitch. Miller bunted successfully to load the bases. But, they would all be stranded again.
Pletscher led off the 3rd with a single with Perigo coming into courtesy run. She would be forced out at 2nd on a fielder's choice by Brookman. And once again the Dragons would strand a runner with the score still 0-0.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the 5th. Pletscher hit a 1-out single. Perigo came into courtesy run. Brookman doubled to score Perigo finally getting the Dragons on the board. The inning ended with Creek up 1-0, which the score remained until the 7th inning.
Cruthers led off with a single who advanced to 3rd base on a hit-n-run ground out by Pletscher. But, she would also be stranded with the Dragons clinging to a 1-0 lead.
A 1-out single for Dakota got things going in the bottom of the 7th. The next batter was hit by a pitch followed by a walk to load the bases. An error in the outfield tied the game and kept the bases loaded. The next batter singled to drive in the winning run with Creek losing 2-1.
Pletscher pitched for Creek allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks. Pletscher led the team with hitting with 3 hits. Brookman had a double and RBI. Cruthers, Miller, and Dusseau had a hit apiece.
Swartz Creek 3 Waterford Mott 2
Cruthers singled to start the game for the Dragons. Pletscher singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Fox laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up to 2nd and 3rd. But, they would be stranded.
WM failed to score in the 1st as well. Adas led off the 2nd with a single with Miller coming into courtesy run. But, Miller was caught stealing and the Dragons were kept off the scoreboard again.
A couple errors and single gave WM the 1-0 lead at the end of 2.
Cruthers hit a 1-out single in the top of the 3rd. Pletscher doubled to score Cruthers. Brookman singled to put runners on the corners before stealing 2nd base. But, they would be stranded with the game tied 1-1.
The remained tied through the top of the 7th with the Dragons threatening to score. Rodriguez had a 1-out bunt single. Cruthers received another intentional walk putting runners on 1st and 2nd. But, they too would be stranded.
Creek held on for the tie through the 7th putting the game into the International Tie-Breaker rule. Each team would begin the inning with a runner on 2nd, the last out. Miller went to 2nd for Creek. A single by Fox scored Miller. Adas ripped a triple to score Fox, but would be stranded with the Dragons taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th.
A groundout moved the runner from 2nd to 3rd with 1 out for WM. The next batter grounded out and scored a run to make the score 3-2. The next batter was hit by a pitch with 2 away. The final batter was retired on an infield pop-up to end the game giving the Dragons the victory.
Phoebe Cross pitched for Creek allowing no earned runs with 3 strikeouts, scattering 6 hits, and 2 walks. Cruthers had 2 hits, a walk, and scored. Pletscher had 2 hits with an RBI. Fox had 2 hits, an RBI, and scored. Adas had a triple and RBI. Rodriguez and Brookman had a hit apiece.
Anchor Bay 8 Swartz Creek 4
The first game on Sunday would be against Anchor Bay. Cruthers singled to open the game followed by a walk to Pletscher. Cruthers stole 3rd base putting runners on the corners. They would be stranded. The game remained scoreless until the top of the 2nd.
Adas hit a Monsterous Home Run leading off the 2nd to get the Dragons on the board. With 2 outs Jamie Perigo singled. Cruthers singled again putting runners on 1st and 2nd. But, they would be stranded.
Anchor Bay was kept off the scoreboard again in the bottom of the 2nd. Brookman led off with a single. Fox singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Brookman was doubled off 2nd on a pop-up to left field. And Fox would be stranded with the score still 1-0.
3 hits and an error gave AB the lead 2-1 after 3.
Perigo singled again with 2 outs in the top of the 4th inning. Cruthers hit her 5th Home Run on the season to retake the lead for the Dragons. Pletscher singled with Miller coming into pinch run. Miller stole 2nd, but too would be stranded with the Dragons up 3-2.
An error, triple, and double would give AB the lead 4-3 after 4 innings of play.
Fox led off the top of the 5th with a single. She advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Lauren Black singled to score Fox and tie the game. Dusseau came into pinch hit and singled to put runners on the corners. With 2 outs Perigo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cruthers crushed the ball about 250', but it would be caught by the left fielder to end the inning. The game was played on a 300' mens field rather than a 200' high school softball diamond. After Cruthers last hit the outfield was playing deeper than 200'.
Anchor Bay hit the ball hard and often in the bottom of the 5th including a home run to take a 4 run lead 8-4.
Pletscher singled to open the top of the 6th and final inning due to the time limit. Miller came into pinch run. Fox singled with 1 out to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Black flied out to center field and Miller could not get back to the bag to prevent the double play, which ended the game.
Cross pitched for Creek allowing 5 earned runs on 12 hits with 1 strikeout. Cruthers had 3 hits including a Home Run, 2 RBIs, and scored. Fox had 3 hits and scored. Perigo had 2 hits and scored. Pletscher had 2 hits and a walk. Adas had a Home Run. Brookman, Black, and Dusseau had a hit apiece.
Swartz Creek 11 Armada 2
Brookman started the final game of the tourney for Creek. Armada loaded the bases in the top of the 1st inning, but the Dragons kept them off the board.
Cruthers opened the game with a single for Creek. With 2 outs Fox reached base on an error that sent Cruthers around the bases to score and Fox to 2nd base. She would be stranded, but the Dragons had the lead 1-0.
Armada was held scoreless in the 2nd. Adas singled to lead off the 2nd for Creek. Sayles came into courtesy run reaching 2nd on a wild pitch. Dusseau singled to score Sayles. Miller reached base on an error putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. With 1 out and 1st base open, Armada decided to pitch to Cruthers. She smashed the ball over the opposite field fence for her 6th Home Run on the season giving Creek a 5-0 lead. With 2 outs Brookman crushed the ball over the left-center fence for her 6th Home Run on the season. The inning ended with the Dragons up 6-0.
Armada could not get anything going in the 3rd with the score still 6-0.
Adas led off the 3rd with a double with Sayles coming into courtesy run. But, she would be stranded.
Pletscher came into to pitch in the 4th for Creek. The first batter ripped a line drive towards 1st base with Black making a nice catch for the 1st out. The side was then retired with Creek still up 6-0.
Cruthers reached base on an error on a hard hit ball to 1st base with 1 out. With 2 outs Brookman doubled moving Cruthers to 3rd. Fox singled scoring Cruthers and Brookman. Black singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Adas blasted her 2nd Home Run on the season clearing the bases. Perigo singled followed by a walk to Dusseau. They would be stranded, but the Dragons took a commanding lead 11-0 into the top of the 5th inning.
Armada was now down to their last at-bats if they did not score due to the run-rule (8 after 5 innings). 2 hits, a batter hit by a pitch, and an error gave Aramada life scoring 2 runs with 1 out. 2 strikeouts later the game ended with Creek winning 11-2.
Brookman pitched 3 innings allowing no earned runs with 3 strikeouts on 3 hits. Pletscher pitched 2 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk.
Cruthers had 2 hits including a Home Run, scored 3 runs, with 3 RBIs. Brookman had 2 hits including a Double and Home Run, scored 2 runs, with an RBI. Adas had 3 hits including a Double and Home Run, 3 RBIs, and scored. Fox, Black, Dusseau, and Perigo had a hit apiece.
The Dragons will face league foe Kearsley tomorrow night at 4pm at Swartz Creek.
