Unbelievable Comeback! Dragons Sweep Kearsley

 

You just gotta read this one to believe it.  It will go down as one of the most memorable games in Dragons history.  The Dragons improve their overall record to 15-5 and league record to 9-1.

AJ Brookman started the game on the mound for the Dragons.

 

Kearsley got on the scoreboard in the first inning on a double, error, and single taking an early 1-0 lead.  The Dragons were retired in order in the bottom of the 1st.  And the game would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning.

 

Hayley Cruthers led off with a single.  Carah Pletscher reached base on an error that put runners on 2nd and 3rd.  AJ Brookman reached base on another error that scored Cruthers.  But, they would be stranded with the game tied 1-1 after 4.

 

2 singles, a double, an error, and a 3-run Home Run for Kearsley gave them a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th.

 

Lauren Adas singled to lead off the 5th with Tabby Miller coming into courtesy run.  Jamie Perigo reached base on a fielder's choice that forced out Miller at 2nd base.  Lauren Black ripped a double in the right-center gap to score Perigo.  A sacrifice bunt by Hanna Sayles moved Black to 3rd.  But, she would be stranded with the Dragons down 6-2 after 5.

 

Carah Pletscher came into relief pitch in the 6th inning for Creek.

 

The score remained 6-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th.

 

Back to back singles to start the bottom of the 7th by Adas and Perigo put runners on 1st and 2nd base with no outs.  Another single by Black loaded the bases.  The Dragons had some momentum, their bench was cheering loudly as were the spectators as Hayley Cruthers came up to bat.  Cruthers took a couple pitches before launching a monsterous Home Run to the Opposite field over the road and into the woods, a Grand Slam that tied the game!  That would be it for the scoring, but the Dragons had new life heading into the 8th inning.

 

Kearsley came right back in the top of the 8th scoring twice on a couple of hits, sacrifice bunt, and an error taking the lead 8-6.

 

Ashley Dusseau singled with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th to get things going for Creek.  Adas ripped a Double scoring Dusseau to make the score 8-7.  Perigo hit a long sacrifice fly to center field moving Adas to 3rd base with 2 outs.  Black tied the game hitting a single that brought Adas home.  Miller singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Cruthers hit a low line drive right to the center fielder ending the inning with the game tied 8-8.

 

The Dragons held Kearsley scoreless in the top of the 9th inning. 

 

With 1 out Brookman ripped a Double to put the Dragons in scoring position.  Hailey Fox came to the plate and smashed the ball into the right-center gap to the fence for a Double that scored Brookman and gave Creek a walk-off win! 

 

The game will be remembered for sure and for a long, long, long time to come.

 

Brookman pitched 5 innings allowing 5 earned runs on 8 hits with 4 strikeouts.  Pletscher pitched 4 innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits with 3 strike outs.

 

Cruthers had 2 hits including a Grand Slam Home Run, scored 2 runs, with 4 RBIs.  Adas had 3 hits including a Double, RBI, and scored twice.  Black had 3 hits including a Double, 2 RBIs, and scored.  Perigo had a hit and scored 2 runs.  Dusseau had a hit and scored.  Fox had a Double and the game winning RBI.  Brookman had a Double, RBI, and scored.  Miller had a hit.

In the nightcap the Dragons would be the visitors with Pletscher taking the mound again.

 

Cruthers led off with a walk.  Pletscher singled moving Cruthers to 2nd.  Perigo came into courtesy run for Pletscher.  Brookman singled to score Cruthers and move Perigo to 2nd.  Fox reached base on a fielder's choice that forced out Perigo at 3rd.  But, they would be stranded with the Dragons taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 1st.

 

A couple of singles and an error put Kearsley on the board taking a 2-1 lead after 1 inning of play.

 

Hanna Sayles singled with 2 outs in the 2nd.  Cruthers singled moving Sayles to 3rd base and advancing to 2nd on the throw.  Pletscher reached base on an error that scored both Cruthers and Sayles before the inning ended with Creek taking the lead 3-2.

 

Kearsley would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

 

Adas had a 2-out single in the top of the 3rd.  A wild pitch sent Adas to 2nd.  Black singled scoring Adas.  Black advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.  The inning ended with the Dragons up 4-2.

 

In the 4th Perigo walked to lead off the inning.  Cruthers was walked again.  Both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  Pletscher singled scoring Perigo with Cruthers stopping at 3rd.  Fox ripped a Double in the gap scoring Cruthers and moving Pletscher to 3rd.  With 2 outs Adas singled again to score Pletscher and Fox before getting thrown out on an attempt to get to 2nd on an errant throw to the cut-off.  The Dragons now had a 8-2 lead.

 

Perigo was hit by a pitch with 2 outs in the 5th.  Cruthers was walked again.  But, they would be stranded.

 

With 2 outs in the 6th Ashley Dusseau hit her first career Home Run over the left-field fence.  The inning ended with the Dragons up 9-2.

 

In the top of the 7th Miller singled with 1 out.  Perigo grounded out with Miller moving to 2nd.  Cruthers hit a long fly ball of the center field fence for a Double scoring Miller.  Cruthers advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch.  Pletscher singled to score Cruthers.  The inning ended with Creek up 11-2, which would be the final score of the game just before darkness settled in.

 

Pletscher pitched the entire game for Creek allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk.

 

Pletscher had 3 hits, 4 RBIs, and scored.  Cruthers had 2 hits including a Double, 3 walks, RBI, and scored 4 runs.  Adas had 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and scored.  Fox had a Double, RBI, and scored.  Dusseau had a Home Run.  Black had a hit and RBI.  Miller had a hit and scored.  Brookman had a hit and RBI.

 

The Dragons host Clio for a Flint Metro League double-header on Thursday at 4pm.
