Dragons One Step Closer to Flint Metro League Championship

 

 

The Dragons traveled to Lapeer West for a Flint Metro League double-header Thursday.  They were all business winning both games by the run rule.  They improved their overall record to 20-6 and league record to 13-1.  They will play their last league games Monday night at Holly.  If they win both they will be outright champions.  A split would give them at least a share of the championship.

 

 

Swartz Creek 15  Lapeer West 4

Hayley Cruthers led off the game with another opposite field Home Run, her 10th of the season.  Carah Pletscher followed with a Double.  With 1 out Lauren Black singled moving Pletscher to 3rd.  Hailey Fox laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Black to 2nd, but kept Pletscher at 3rd.  With 2 outs Lauren Adas doubled scoring both runners.  Tabby Miller came into courtesy run.  Jamie Perigo was hit by a pitch.  Hanna Sayles reached base on an error to load the bases with 2 outs.  Emily Rodriguez singled scoring Miller and Perigo, while moving Sayles to 3rd.  As the Dragons batted around, Cruthers singled scoring Sayles and moved Rodriguez to 3rd, while advancing to 2nd on a error by the outfielder.  Pletscher hit her 2nd Double of the game scoring both runners.  And the inning would come to an end with Creek up 8-0.

 

Pheobe Cross pitched the entire game for Creek.  West would get a couple of hits in the 1st, but they would be stranded.

 

Black singled to lead off the 2nd for Creek.  Fox reached base on a fielder's choice that forced out Black at 2nd base.  Adas reached base on an error that moved Fox to 2nd.  Miller came into courtesy run.  Perigo singled scoring Fox, while moving Miller to 2nd.  Sayles grounded out to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd.  But, they would be stranded with the Dragons up 9-0.

 

West would not score in the 2nd.

 

Cruthers led off the 3rd with an intentional walk.  Pletscher reached base on an error that sent Cruthers to 2nd.  AJ Brookman singled to load the bases.  Black reached base on a fielder's choice that scored Cruthers and moved Pletscher to 3rd with Brookman out at 2nd.  Fox reached base on a fielder's choice that scored Pletscher and moved Black to 2nd.  With 1 out Adas hit a line drive hard to center field with Black getting doubled up at 2nd to end the innings with Creek up 11-0.

 

West would not score in the 3rd.

 

Sayles had a 1 out bunt single in the top of the 4th to get a rally going for Creek.  Rodriguez reached base on a fielder's choice with Sayles called out for runner interference.  With 2 outs Cruthers hit a rocket line drive to right field for her 2nd Home Run of the game.  That would be it for the scoring with the Dragons up 13-0.

 

West would not score in the 4th.

 

Brookman led off the 5th with a bunt single.  Black reached base on a fielder's choice with West failing to get the out a 2nd base due to an error that sent Brookman to 3rd.  Fox singled scoring Brookman and moved Black to 2nd.  Adas reached base on a fielder's choice that forced out Fox at 2nd and moved Black to 3rd.  Miller came into courtesy run and stole 2nd base with Black scoring on the errant throw to 2nd.  Perigo grounded out moving Miller to 3rd with 2 outs.  But, she would be stranded with the Dragons now up 15-0.

 

West's bats came alive in the bottom of the 5th scoring 4 runs, but could not score enough to avoid the run rule as Creek won the opener 15-4.

 

Cross pitched 5 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits with 6 strike outs.  Cruthers was 3-3 with 2 Home Runs, 4 RBIs, scored 4 runs, and had the intentional walk.  Pletscher had 2 Doubles and scored twice with 2 RBIs.  Brookman had 2 hits and scored.  Black had 2 hits, scored twice, and had an RBI.  Adas doubled with 2 RBIs.  Fox, Perigo, Rodriguez, and Sayles had a hit apiece.

In the nightcap the Dragons would be the home team.  Pletscher pitched the entire game for Creek.  West would not score in the 1st inning.

 

Cruthers led off the bottom of the 1st with another powerful Home Run, her 12th on the season, to get the Dragons on the board.  Pletscher reached base on an error with Perigo coming into courtesy run.  Brookman nearly homered hitting a ground-rule double stopping Perigo at 3rd.  Black hit a long sacrifice fly to the right fielder that scored Perigo and moved Brookman to 3rd.  Fox grounded out to the 1st baseman, but scored Brookman.  Adas reached base on an error and then stole 2nd base.  But, she would be stranded with the Dragons up 3-0.

 

West would not score in the 2nd.

 

Sayles led off the bottom of the 2nd reaching base on an errant throw by the catcher.  She promptly stole 2nd.  With 1 out Cruthers would be intentionally walked again.  Sayles and Cruthers performed a double steal with 2 outs.  Brookman hit a hard line drive right at the right fielder to end the scoring threat.

 

West would not score in the 3rd.

 

Black led of the 3rd with a single.  Ashley Dusseau reached base on an error.  Sayles reached base on an error to load the bases  with 2 outs.  But, they would all be stranded with the score still 3-0.

 

West would not score in the 4th.

 

Cruthers led off the 4th with another intentional walk and then stole 2nd.  Cruthers moved to 3rd on a ground out by Pletscher.  Brookman singled to left field scoring Cruthers, then advanced to 2nd on an error.  Fox ripped a Double to score Brookman.  Adas singled to score Fox. And that would be it for the scoring with Creek up 6-0.

 

West would not score in the 5th.

 

Sayles led off the 5th with her first Triple of the season.  Miller bunted with Sayles staying put on 3rd.  Cruthers was intentionally walked again to load the bases with no outs.  Pletscher hit a long Double in the gap to empty the bases.  Perigo came into courtesy run.  Brookman walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Black hit another long sacrifice fly to center field moving both runners up.  With 2 outs Fox laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt that scored Brookman to end the game by the run rule 10-0.

 

Pletscher pitched the 1-hit shutout for Creek with 6 strikeouts.  Cruthers had a Home Run, 3 intentional walks, scored 3 runs, with an RBI and 2 stolen bases.  Brookman had 2 hits including a Double, scored twice, with an RBI and walk.  Pletscher had a Double and 3 RBIs.  Fox had a Double with 3 RBIs and scored.  Adas, Sayles, and Miller had a hit apiece.

 

The Dragons host a tourney this Saturday playing Brandon at 10am, North Branch at Noon, and Bay City Western at 2pm.  Come on out and watch the Dragons play their final home games of the 2013 season.  It will also be Senior Night (Day) for the 4 girls graduating this year (Adas, Rodriguez, Brookman, and Cruthers).
