Varsity 2-1 at Stars Tourney

After being washed out of Saturday's games, the tournament was shortened to only play 3 pool games.  The games were shortened to 1 hour and 10 minutes with the longest game only going 5 innings.  The Dragons came out a little slow, but finished strong winning their final 2 games.  And it would be another windy and cold day.  They improved their overall record to 8-7 with a key Metro League double header at Kearsley tomorrow permitting.

Swartz Creek 0  Utica Eisenhower 5

All the scoring took place in the top of the 1st inning with Utica scoring 5 runs on 4 hits including a home run, 2 walks, a couple wild pitches and an error.

Creek came out hitting the ball hard, but right at defenders as they would be kept off the scoreboard.  Utica added 2 more hits and 3 walks through the 4th inning, but failed to score.  The Dragons added 3 hits with Carah Pletscher singling and doubling (just missing a home run) with Lauren Black also getting a hit.

Carah Pletscher pitched for Creek with 2 strikeouts. She also had 2 hits including a double.  Black had a hit.

Swartz Creek 4  Seaholm 1

Seaholm scored in the top of the 1st inning on an error and single to go up 1-0.  The Dragons got started with a single by Hailey Fox, who scored on several wild pitches.  Daniel Heron and Carah Pletscher walked, but they would be stranded with the game tied at the end of 1 inning of play.

Seaholm managed to get 4 more hits over the next 4 innings, but could not score.

The Dragons got a lead off single by Abby Stringer in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  Hanna Sayles came into pinch run.  A ground out by Kylee Pierce moved her to 2nd base.  Ashley Dusseau hit a deep ball to right field getting an RBI double scoring Sayles.  Fox walked, but the scoring threat ended with the score 2-1 after two.

Carah Pletscher added a single in the 3rd, but was kept from scoring.

Pierce walked to lead off the 4th with Tabby Miller coming into courtesy run.  Dusseau's sacrifice bunt moved Miller all the way to 3rd base.  Gabby Oberlin pinch hit for Haley Dupuis and ripped a double to score Miller.  The inning ended with Creek up 3-1.  Madisen Henry led off the 5th inning with a bomb to the opposite field, at least 250' getting her first career varsity home run.  The game was called shortly after that due to the time limit with the home team Dragons leading and up to bat.  The final score was 4-1.

Phoebe Cross pitched all 5 innings for Creek scattering 6 singles and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts.  Henry had a solo home run.  Oberlin had a double and RBI.  Fox had a hit, walk and scored. Carah Pletscher had a hit and walked.  Stringer had a hit with Sayles pinch run scoring for her. Pierce had a walk with Miller pinch run scoring for her.  Dusseau had a double, RBI and sacrifice bunt.

Swartz Creek 8  South Lyons 7

The final game of the day only lasted 3 innings before hitting the time limit.  Henry started the game on the mound for the Dragons.

South Lyons managed a lead off single, then advanced the runner to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt, but failed to score in the bottom of the 2nd.

Miller blasted a triple that would have likely been a home run if the game wasn't played on a men's field to lead off the 3rd for the Dragons.  Black singled to score Miller followed by a walk to Carah Pletscher.  They moved up to 2nd and 3rd on wild pitches.  A pinch hit line drive infield single by Heron loaded the bases. A wild pitch scored Carah Pletscher, moved Black to 3rd and Heron to 2nd.  Lauren Pletscher singled to score Black and move Heron to 3rd with Pierce coming into pinch run, who promptly stole 2nd. A bunt single by Dupuis scored Heron.  The inning ended on a hard line drive by Sayles which doubled off Dupuis at 1st.  The Dragons had a 8-3 lead with time running out.

In the bottom of the 3rd, which due to the time limit would be the final inning, South Lyons rallied.  They would score 4 runs to cut the lead to 8-5 with Stringer coming into the game releiving Henry with the bases loaded and no outs.  She struck out the first batter, but walked the next 2 making the game 8-7.  Cross would come into finish the game getting a big strikeout before getting a ground out to end the game.  The Dragons won 8-7.
