Great Games at Varsity Home Tourney

Swartz Creek 8  Flushing 9

In the top of the 1st Flushing got things going with a 1-out walk. With 2 outs a single and 3 doubles gave them a 4-0 lead before the inning ended.

With 1 out Hailey Fox reached base on error followed by a single by Tabby Miller who then stole 2nd, but they would be stranded keeping the score the same after 1.

In the top of the 2nd Flushing led off with another double. With 1 down center fielder Miller ran down a fly ball and threw it quickly to 2nd base resulting in a double play and ending the inning.

The bottom of the 2nd was rally time for the Dragons.  Jamie Perigo led off with a walk.  Danielle Heron followed with a single.  A single by Ashley Dusseau scored Perigo.  A single by Kylee Pierce scored Heron.  Hanna Sayles ripped a triple over the right fielder's head scoring Dusseau and Pierce.  Miller walked and stole 2nd.  They were left on the base though, but the Dragons took the lead 5-4.

Flushing came right back taking the lead in the top of the 3rd with 2 singles and another double making the score 6-5.  Creek went down in order in the bottom of the 3rd.

Flushing got 2 more runs in the top of the 4th on 2 errors and a walk, while the Dragons again were retired in order with Flushing holding a 8-5 lead.

An infield hit, wild pitch and single gave Flushing another run in the top of the 5th and a 9-5 lead.  Miller led off the bottom of the 5th with a single.  Black singled as well with Hailey Dupuis coming into pinch run, before another single scored both of them.  Heron knocked in another run to make the score 9-8 after 5.

The 6th inning was scoreless for both teams as was the top of the 7th for Flushing.  The Dragons loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 7th with a lead off single and back to back singles by Perigo and Heron.  An infield pop out, strikeout and flyout to left field ended the game with Creek leaving the bases loaded.

Phoebe Cross pitched for the Dragons giving up 12 hits and 2 walks.  Creek also had 12 hits in the game.  Heron had 3 hits, scored and an RBI.  Miller had 2 hits, a walk and scored. Sayles had a triple, scored and 2 RBIs.  Black had a hit. Perigo had a hit, walk and scored.  Dusseau had a hit, scored and an RBI.

Swartz Creek 1  Rochester Adams 0

The second game was quite different from the first.  The Dragons only managed 3 hits.  Rochester Adams had 5 hits. Kara Manier had a hit and an RBI double by Gabby Oberlin in the 4th inning would prove to be the winning run.  In the 6th inning Rochester Adams threatened with the bases loaded, but failed to score.

Despite dropping the opener to Flushing, the Dragons played pretty solid ball and battled hard in both games.  Their record now stands at 11-10 overall with a home double header scheduled for Monday versus Clarkston.
