Varsity goes 1-2 at this Weekend's Tourney

The Dragons coaching staff were a little short-handed this weekend, so I'm only able to post box scores. The tournament was moved from Swartz Creek to Brandon due to field conditions.

The Dragons played a couple of great games despite dropping 2 of 3.  Phoebe Cross pitched 2 fantastic games in the opener versus Brandon and against the #2 ranked team in the state Bay City Western.  There were also some great defensive plays including diving catches by outfielder Hanna Sayles and Center Fielder Tabby Miller adding more perfect long throws cutting down a runner at 3rd and nearly at home. For the most part the Dragons played very solid defense on the day and in recent weeks.

The ladies overall record is 12-12 with 3 league double headers scheduled this week.  They are 6-4 in league play and trying to finish the regular season strong heading into districts, which will be at Kearsley on Saturday, May 31st.  Any weather cancellations this week will be made up next week before districts.

Swartz Creek 4  Brandon 0

Danielle Heron had 2 hits and an RBI.  Jamie Perigo had 2 hits, a walk and scored.  Gabby Oberlin had a hit and scored.  Ashley Dusseau had 2 walks.  Lauren Black walked and scored.  Hailey Fox had a hit and walk.  Tabby Miller had a hit and walk.

Phoebe Cross pitched the complete game shutout scattering 5 hits with 4 strikeouts.

Swartz Creek 2  North Branch 8

Hailey Fox had 2 hits including a triple, RBI and scored.  Tabby Miller had 2 hits.  Jamie Perigo walked and scored.  Hanna Sayles had a hit.  Kylee Pierce walked.

Madisen Henry started on the mound for the Dragons only allowing a couple runs, but struggled with walks.  Phoebe Cross came in in the middle of the 3rd with 2 on and no outs and kept North Branch off the scoreboard.  But, North Branch used 7 hits and took advantage of a couple key errors to score six more runs.

Swartz Creek 0  Bay City Western 2

Tabby Miller had 2 hits and a walk.  Ashley Dusseau also had a hit.  Madisen Henry had a walk.  The Dragons had runners in scoring position a couple times, but left them stranded.

Phoebe Cross pitched the complete game scattering 8 hits with 3 strikeouts, while allowing just 1 earned run.
