Dragons Take 2 at Linden

The Dragons traveled to Linden Tuesday night for a metro league double header and....it was some kind of cold!  Of all my years coaching and watching games as a parent I can't recall a colder day of playing softball.  But, the Dragons bats were on fire!

Ella Sinclair led off the first game with a single and stolen base.  With 1 out Kylee Pierce singled to score Sinclair and advanced to 2nd on the throw.  Pierce went to 3b on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Lauren Black scored her.  The score was 2-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.  Linden managed to get a runner to 2b on an error, but she was kept off the scoreboard.  


The Dragons were retired in order in the top of the 2nd.  Linden got a 2 out double, but she would be stranded.  A big 3rd inning by the Dragons changed the game starting with a single by Allison Dusseau.  Ella Sinclair followed with a double that moved Dusseau to 3b.  Danielle Heron singled scoring Dusseau and Sinclair and advanced to 2b on the throw.  Kylee Pierce reached base on an error that moved Heron to 3b.  Hailey Dupuis came into courtesy run for Pierce and promptly stole 2b putting runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Lauren Black singled knocking in Heron and moving Dupuis to 3b.  Madisen Henry launched the ball well over the left field fence for a home run scoring Black.  Kara Manier singled and McKenzie McDaniel walked, but they would be stranded with the Dragons taking a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd.  The score remained the same with Linden being retired in order.


Creek expanded their lead in the 4th starting with a 1 out double by Danielle Heron.  With 2 outs Lauren Black singled to score Heron and Ashley Dusseu reached base on error.  Madisen Henry smashed another home run before the inning ended with the Dragons up 11-0.  Linden managed a couple singles in the bottom of the inning, but could not score.


Phoebe Cross came into pinch hit and ripped a double to lead off the 5th, but she would be stranded.  Linden put together a couple of hits and scored a run in the bottom of the 5th, but the game ended by mercy rule with the Dragons on top 11-1.


For the Dragons Madisen Henry had 2 home runs, scored twice, had 5 RBIs and pitched all 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and 4 hits without an earned run.  Ella Sinclair had 2 hits including a double and scored 2 runs.  Danielle Heron had 2 hits including a double, scored a run with 2 RBIs.  Kylee Pierce had a hit and RBI.  Lauren Black had 2 hits, scored twice with 2 RBIs. Kara Manier had a hit.  Phoebe Cross had a double.  Allison Dusseau had a hit and scored.  McKenzie McDaniel had a walk.  Hailey Dupuis scored twice as a courtesy runner.

The Dragons started off a little slow in the nightcap, but in the end prevailed.  A 2 out double by Kylee Pierce in the top of the 1st got things going for the Dragons.  Hailey Dupuis came into courtesy run.  Lauren Black singled putting runners on the corners.  An RBI double by Madisen Henry put Creek on the board first before the inning ended.  Linden tied the game taking advantage of an error and double.


Creek was retired in order in the 2nd.  Linden managed a couple hits, but could not score.  The Dragons took the lead in the top of the 3rd beginning with a 1 out single by Danielle Heron.  Kylee Pierce walked with Hailey Dupuis coming into courtesy run.  Lauren Black hit the next pitch over the fence for her first home run of the season knocking in Heron and Dupuis.  Ashley Dusseau and Kara Manier singled to form a new scoring threat, but they would be stranded with the Dragons leading 4-1.


Linden took advantage of an error with a triple to cut the lead to 4-2 after 3 innings of play.  In the 4th the Dragons managed a single by Danielle Heron, but could not push her across the plate.  Linden went ahead in the game with 4 hits and another Creek error in the bottom of the 4th making it 5-4.  The Dragons regained the lead in the top of the 5th starting with a lead off single by Lauren Black.  Madisen Henry reached base on an error putting 2 on with no outs.  A single by Ashley Dusseau scored Lauren Black.  A ground out by Kara Manier scored Heron making the score 6-5, which is where it would stay despite a couple hits by Linden in the bottom of the inning.


The Dragons added another run in the top of the 6th starting with a 1 out triple by Ella Sinclair.  Kylee Piece doubled to score Sinclair.  Lauren Black singled, but they would be left on base with the Dragons up 7-5.  But, the Eagles would come right back scoring twice on 3 hits to make it 7-7 after 6 innings of play.  


McKenzie McDaniel reached base on an error int the top of the 7th, but 3 nice plays in the outfield by Linden ended the scoring threat.  

The Eagles were retired in order in the bottom of the 7th sending the game into extra innings.  The Dragons bats exploded in the top of the 8th inning.  A 1 out single by Danielle Heron started the rally.  Kylee Perce doubled moving Heron to 3rd.  A walk to Lauren Black loaded the bases for Madisen Henry, who ripped a double off the left field fence just missing another home run scoring Heron and Pierce.  Ashley Dusseau doubled to score Black and Henry.  Kara Manier reached base on an error.  McKenzie McDaniel singled to knock in Dusseau and the Dragons took a 13 -7 lead into the bottom of the 8th.


Linden would not go by quietly though.  The scored 5 runs to cut the score to 13-12 using 6 hits to do so.  But, they would come up short as the Dragons would go on to win the game.


For the Dragons Danielle Heron had 3 hits and scored twice.  Kylee Pierce had 3 doubles, scored a run, walked and had an RBI.  Lauren Black had 4 hits including a home run, walked, had 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs.  Madisen Henry had 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and scored twice.  Ashley Dusseau had 3 hits including a double, 3 RBIs and scored.  Kara Manier had a hit and scored.  McKenzie McDaniel had a hit and RBI.  Phoebe Cross and Madisen Henry split pitching time for the Dragons. 


The Dragons improved their League record to 2-2 and overall record to 4-5.  The next games will be in Swartz Creek as hosts of one of their 2 tourneys vs. Bay City Central, Lakeland and Alpena.
