The Dragons played 5 games in the Michigan Stars tournament in Grand Blanc Saturday and Sunday. They went 3-2 winning their Flight, but did not qualify for the Championship Bracket in the field of 48 teams. The games had an hour and twenty minute time limits. After Saturday's 3 games, the teams were seeded into "Flights." The last 2 games and wins earned them the 1st place in their Flight. Despite a couple of lopsided losses, the team kept fighting and played some great ball on Sunday.
Swartz Creek 5 Renaissance 4
In the opener the Dragons would be the home team of a thrilling game. Renaissance went down in order in the top of the 1st. The Dragons rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st starting with a lead off walk to Ella Sinclair. She advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Kylee Pierce also walked putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Another passed ball moved them up to 2nd and 3rd. With 2 outs Lauren Pletscher walked to load the bases. Natalie Oldrham cleared the bases with a triple off the right field fence. The inning came to a close with the Dragons up 3-0.
Renaissance managed a single in the 2nd, but could not score. Creek got a 2-out single from Sinclair, who made it all the way to 3rd after a stolen base and passed ball, but she would be stranded. Both teams were retired in order in the 3rd. Renaissance scored twice in the 4th on a walk and home run to cut the Dragons lead to 3-2. The Dragons went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Renaissance took the lead in the top of the 5th on a 2-out rally with 2 singles and a double scoring twice to go up 4-3. McKenzie McDaniel led off the bottom of the 5th with a pinch hit single. Sinclair singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd. The runners moved up to 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but they would be stranded.
The 6th inning would be the final inning due to the time limit. Renaissance got a walk, but was kept from scoring. With 1 out Oldrham singled. Danielle Heron reached base on an error that moved Oldrham to 2nd. Hailey Dupuis came into pinch run for her. Another error loaded the bases. Allison Dusseau ripped a single to score Oldrham and Dupuis to win the game.
For the Dragons Natalie Oldrham had 2 hits including a triple with 3 RBIs and scored. Allison Dusseau had 1 hit and 2 RBIs. Ella Sinclair had 2 hits, a walk and scored. McKenzie McDaniel had a hit. Hailey Dupuis scored two runs and Lauren Pletscher scored and walked. Kylee Pierce had a walk. Madisen Henry pitched allowing 4 runs on 6 hits with 7 strike outs and a pair of walks.
Utica Ford 8 Swartz Creek 0
In this game the Dragons could not generate any offense and did not manage to get a base runner past 2nd. The game ended by the run rule in the 5th. Utica Ford would go on to play in the Championship game of the Tourney, losing 6-4 to Monroe.
For the Dragons Ella Sinclair had 2 of the teams 4 hits. Lauren Black and Daniel Heron had a hit apiece. Madisen Henry pitched giving up 10 hits with 3 strike outs. A couple errors also hurt the Dragons.
Garden City 15 Swartz Creek 6
This game also finished early due to the run rule. The Dragons bats came around, but it was too little and too late.
For the Dragons Ella Sinclair had 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Lauren Black had 2 hits and an RBI and scored. Kara Manier smashed a solo home run. Madisen Henry had pinch hit double and scored. Natalie Oldrham had a single. McKenzie McDaniel had a single. Stephanie Bloss had a sacrifice fly RBI, walk and scored. Danielle Heron scored. Allison Dusseau had a double, RBI and scored. The Dragons defense did not help pitcher Phoebe Cross committing 5 errors in the game.
Swartz Creek 11 Kearsley 2
This was yet again another game ended by the run rule, but it would be the Dragons coming out on top. Kearsley went down in order in the top of the 1st. Creek got a lead off single by Sinclair. Pierce singled putting runners on the corners. Dupuis came into courtesy run for Pierce. A sacrifice bunt by Ashley Dusseau moved the runners up to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Lauren Black reached base on an error that also scored Sinclair and moved Pierce to 3rd. Pierce then scored on a passed ball. The inning ended with Creek up 2-0.
Both teams failed to score in the 2nd. Kearsley went down 1-2-3 in the 3rd. Sinclair reached 1st on a dropped 3rd strike in the bottom of the 3rd. She stole 2nd and reached 3rd on an error, before scoring on a passed ball. That would be it for Creek, but they increased their lead to 3-0.
Kearsley began the 4th with the lead off batter reaching base after being hit by a pitch. The next batter hit a triple, but the runner attempting to score was called out for running out of the base path. The next batter homered before the inning ended with Kearsley cutting the Dragons lead down to 3-2. Creek came right back in the bottom of the 4th starting with a single by Oldrham. Heron doubled putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. A ground out by Lauren Pletscher scored Oldrham. Heron advanced to 3rd on a passed ball. Henry got a pinch hit single to score Heron. Allison Dusseau re-entered the game for Henry. Sinclair doubled putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Pierce singled to score both Heron and Sinclair. The inning ended, but the Dragons increased their lead to 7-2.
Kearsley managed a double in the top of the 5th, but could not score. The Dragons rallied in the bottom of the 5th with 2 outs. Heron reached base on an error. McDaniel got a pinch hit walk. Stephanie Bloss also got a pinch hit walk to load the bases. Allsion Dusseau singled to score Heron. Sinclair cleared the bases with a triple, which ended the game by the run rule 11-2.
For the Dragons Ella Sinclair had 3 hits including a double and triple, 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs. Kylee Pierce had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Danielle Heron had a double and scored twice. Natalie Oldrham had a hit and scored. Allison Dusseau had a hit, RBI and scored. Madisen Henry had a hit and RBI. McKenzie McDaniel and Stephanie Bloss walked and scored. Phoebe Cross pitched only allowing 3 hits with 5 strike outs.
Swartz Creek 1 Armada 0
This was a great game and pitching duel, which lasted 6 1/2 innings with the Dragons as the home team. Madisen Henry pitched the game for the Dragons only allowing 2 infield hits with 8 strike outs, no walks and no runs. The lone run of the game came in the 4th with Ashley Dusseau getting a 1-out single. She advanced to 2nd on a passed ball that proved to be a critical mistake. With 2 outs Danielle Heron singled to score Dusseau. There were several good plays on defense as the Dragons played error free ball.
