The Swartz Creek Dragons Varsity Softball team began their 2016 season on the road at Grand Blanc. It was a good trip for the team who played a couple of pretty good games earning a spilt with the Bobcats.

In the top of the 1st inning the Dragons got started with a lead off single and stolen base by Senior Co-Captain Short Stop Ella Sinclair. Kylee Perce drove the ball to the fence for an RBI double with Neelie Hunt coming into courtesy run. Natalie Oldrham drew a walk followed by a single by the other Captain Senior Madisen Henry, which loaded the bases. A 2-out single by freshman Jessica Verran drove scored Hunt and Oldrham putting the Dragons up 3-0 before the inning ended.
Grand Blanc threatened in the bottom of the 1st with a couple walks, but 2 strikeouts by Henry and a groundout on a swinging bunt from Pierce to Sam Lyons ended the inning.
Pierce doubled again in the 2nd inning with 2 outs, but would be stranded. Henry struck out the side in the bottom of the inning keeping the score 3-0 after 2 innings of play. Henry reached base on error in the top of the 3rd with Abigail Buckner coming into courtesy run. Freshman Madison Majestic singled to put runners on the corners, but both would be stranded with the score unchanged. Henry shut down Grand Blanc again with a couple more strikeouts in the bottom half of the inning.
Sinclair singled with 1 out in the top of the 4th inning and stole 2nd base again. With 2 outs Oldrham singled to score Sinclair. Henry followed with a single with Buckner coming in to run for her again, but the Dragons could not advance them with the score 4-0. A 1 out double and error led to the Bobcats first run in the bottom of the 4th inning to cut the lead to 4-1 with Henry again striking out the side.
Freshman Sydney Scott lead off the 5th inning with a walk, but the Dragons could not score her. 2 errors led to another run for the Bobcats in the bottom of the 5th with a couple more strikeouts by Henry cutting the lead to 4-2.
Pierce singled with one out in the top of the 6th. With 2 outs Henry crushed the ball hitting her first home run well over the center field fence to make the score 6-2 before the inning ended. Grand Blanc managed 2 runners with a hit and hit batter in the bottom of the 6th, but they would be stranded after a couple more strikeouts by Henry.
Creek added 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning, which began with Scott reaching base on an error. Verran doubled, which scored Scott. Lyons walked followed by a sacrifice bunt by Sinclair. With 2 outs Pierce ripped another double to score Verran and Lyons. Oldrham singled to score Pierce. The Dragons lead was now 10-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th. The Bobcats used a couple singles to score another run, but the Dragons got the win 10-3.
Madisen Henry got the win with 16 strikeouts and scattered 5 hits. She was also 3-5 at the plate with a home run and 2 RBIs. Kylee Pierce was 4-5, scored twice with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Ella Sinclair had 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Natalie Oldrham had 2 hits, scored and had 2 RBIs. Jessica Verran had 2 hits including a double and scored. Madison Majestic added a hit.
Grand Blanc 7 Swartz Creek 4
Swartz Creek would be the home team in the nightcap. The Bobcats scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st on 3 hits and a walk. But the Dragons came right back to even the score in the bottom of the 1st. Sinclair reached base on error followed by another hit by Pierce. Oldrham singled to load the bases. The runners moved up on a wild pitch that scored Sinclair. Henry moved the runners with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that scored Pierce. Majestic singled to score Oldrham. Scott walked. Verran hit a hard line drive up the middle in which the Grand Blanc short stop made an amazing catch to turn a double play and end the inning with the game tied 3-3-.
Grand Blanc came back to regain the lead with 3 hits and a couple fielder's choice plays making the score 5-3. The Dragons went down in order in the bottom of the 2nd.
The Bobcats got a couple hits in the top of the 3rd but could not score thanks in part to an unassisted double play by Lyons at first base. Creek could not get anything going in the bottom of the inning still trailing 5-3 after 3.
Grand Blanc used 4 hits to add 2 more runs and extend their lead to 7-3 in the top of the 4th. Scott led off with a walk for the Dragons. Verran smashed a double that scored Scott, but that would be all the Dragons could do cutting the lead to 7-4.
Creek did not allow another run in the game. Oldrham was the only player for the Dragons to get a hit for the remainder of the game. So, they split the non-conference double header with cross-town rival Grand Blanc.
Natalie Oldrham had 3 hits for Creek and scored. Kylee Pierce had a hit and scored. Madison Majestic had a hit and RBI. Madisen Henry had an RBI. Jessica Verran pitched her first career varsity game, a complete game and also had an RBI double. Ella Sinclair also scored.
The Dragons won't play again until after spring break when they host Lake Orion in another non-conference double header on April 12th.
