The Dragons went 1-2 Saturday at the Lake Orion Tournament, but continue to improve. The defense is where the most progress is being made and hitting is expected to come around through the season as well. Pitching has been solid all year. The games had time limits, which prevented them from going the full 7 innings.
Oxford 6 Swartz Creek 0
The Dragons ran into an exceptional pitcher from Oxford who threw a 6-inning no-hitter against them. Kylee Pierce was the lone player to reach base for Creek with a walk in the 4th inning. Madisen Henry pitched the complete game for the Dragons with 7 strikeouts. The defense only committed one error, which was their season best.
Goodrich 12 Swartz Creek 2
The second game of the day didn't go well for Creek losing by the run rule in 5 innings. 3 errors and mental mistakes really kept them out of the game. For the Dragons Ella Sinclair had 2 hits. Allison Dusseau had 2 hits and scored. Madisen Henry had a hit and RBI. Kylee Pierce had a hit and scored. Natalie Oldrham and Madison Majestic had a hit apiece. Jessica Verran had a hit and pitched the complete game with a couple strikeouts.
Swartz Creek 8 Waterford Mott 5
This game was pretty one-sided until the last inning (6th) with Creek ahead 5-0. Mott came back and scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th to tie the game. After a couple singles and fielders choice, the big hit came with a base clearing triple on a misplayed ball to left field. And just like that it was tied. In the bottom of the 6th and final inning Ella Sinclair led off with a single, which was followed by Kylee Pierce reaching base on an error. Then, it was the Freshman Jessica Verran who crushed the ball over the center field fence for her first career varsity home run and walk off game winner.
Ella Sinclair had 3 hits and scored. Jess Verran had 2 hits including the Home Run, 3 RBIs and scored twice. Natalie Oldrham had 2 hits, an RBI and scored. Kylee Pierce had a hit and scored twice. Madison Majestic had a hit and scored. Sydney Scott had a hit with 2 RBIs. Allison Dusseau had a Double and RBI. Madisen Henry had a hit and scored. She also pitched the game with 7 strikeouts.
Although technically the Dragons had no errors in the game, they did have some misplayed balls and mental mistakes which led to runs. It is the first game that they were not charged an error. The 3 games were the best they've played defensively with player positioning becoming more solidified.
They will host the Linden Eagles Monday night at 4pm in a Metro League double-header.
