Pair of Close Losses for Dragons

The Dragons could only manage 2 hits in the opener against league foe Linden on Monday night. Creek had only one error and a few mental lapses.  Credit goes to Linden who made several outstanding catches on defense in the outfield throughout (both) games.  Jessica Verran and Natalie Oldrham each had hits, while Madison Majestic and Sydney Scott drew walks.  Madisen Henry pitched the complete game with 5 strikeouts.

The Dragons got their offense going late in the second game to make for another exciting finish.  Creek kept Linden off the score board in the 1st.  Ella Sinclair led off the game with a walk for Creek, then stole 2nd base.  With 2 outs Natalie Oldrham singled to score Sinclair before the inning ended with the Dragons up 1-0.

 

Linden scored an unearned run in the 2nd inning on a single and error to tie the game.  Creek managed 2 base runners, but failed to score in the bottom of the inning.  Linden had a lead off hit in the top of the 3rd, but a ground out and 2 strikeouts kept them from taking the lead.  The Dragons went down in order in the 3rd.

 

Linded used a hit an error to score again in the 4th inning taking a 2-1 lead, while the Dragons went down in order again.  Linden was retired in order in the top of the 5th.  The Dragons tied the game with Sinclair getting a 2 out single, advancing to 2nd base on a passed ball and scoring on a single by Kylee Pierce.  The game was tied 2-2 after 5 innings of play.

 

Linden managed a couple runners in the 6th, but failed to score and the Dragons went down in order keeping the game tied.  Linden had a hit in the 7th, but Creek kept her from scoring.  The Dragons were retired in order in the 7th sending the game into the International Tie-Breaker Rule.

 

In the 8th, beginning with a runner on 2nd base (last out from previous inning), a single moved the runner to 3rd base.  The player on 1st stole 2nd base on the next pitch to put runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs.  A line out to 2nd base kept the runners from scoring.  With 1 out a ground out to 2nd base scored the runner from 3rd base and moved the other runner to 3rd base.  With 2 outs a single with an error in the out field scored another run.  Linden took a 3 run lead (5-2) into the bottom of the 8th inning.

 

The Dragons began the inning with Olivia Hughes as the runner at 2nd base.  A sacrifice bunt by Ella Sinclair moved her to 3rd base.  A double by Kylee Pierce scored Hughes with one out.  The next batter grounded out to short stop keeping Pierce at 2nd base.  With 2 outs Natalie Oldrham singled to score Pierce cutting the lead to 5-4.  Allison Dusseau followed with a single that moved Oldrham to 2nd base.  Madison Majestic ripped a Double to score Oldrham and move Dusseau to 3rd base tying the game 5-5.  But the Dragons failed to push in the winning run.

 

In the 9th innning with another runner starting on 2nd base, Linden homered to take a 2 run lead.  The next batters were retired, but the damage was done.  The Dragons began the inning with Sydney Scott running at 2nd base.  Madisen Henry came up with a pinch hit single that scored Scott to cut the lead to one, 8-7. Next up, Ella Sinclair hit a sharp line drive to 2nd base, which resulted in a double play and ended the game. 

 

For the Dragons Ella Sinclair had a hit and scored 2 runs.  Kylee Pierce had 2 hits including a Double, 2 RBIs and scored.  Natalie Oldrham had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and scored.  Allison Dusseau had a hit.  Madison Majestic had a Double and RBI.  Madisen Henry had a hit, RBI and pitched the game for Creek with 6 strikeouts.
