Dragons Get Two Wins at Brandon

The Dragons traveled to Brandon for a couple of conference games on Monday night.  They put together two of the best games they've played all year.   Senior co-captain pitcher Madisen Henry had 21 strikeouts total in both games.  Kylee Pierce and Natalie Oldrham each hit home runs.  While the team made a few mistakes, they showed great improvements in all aspects of the game!

The defense has been improving through the season.  Pierce has been outstanding behind the plate, picking off another runner tonight.  Newcomer freshman Madison Snider made some great catches in center field. Sydney Scott has been great at 3rd base.  Natalie Oldrham has been fantastic playing 1st base for the first time in her life.  Allison Dusseau continues to improve at 2nd base as is Madison Majestic in the outfield.  Ella Sinclair made some great running catches tonight at short stop as well.

Their next game isn't until Monday, May 2nd home against Kearsley.

Swartz Creek  7  Brandon 1

Kylee Pierce got things started in the top of the 1st inning with a 1-out single.  Jessica Verran followed with another single.  Then, Natalie Oldrham hit her first career varsity home run putting the Dragons up 3-0.  With 2 outs Madison Majestic tripled, but she would be stranded.  A walk, stolen base and error put Brandon on the board in the bottom of the 1st making the score 3-1.

Sam Lyons was hit by a pitch to start the top of the 2nd for Creek.  A sac bunt by Ella Sinclair moved her to 2nd base.  With 2 outs Kylee Pierce reached base on an error, which also scored Lyons making the score 4-1 before the inning ended.  In the 2nd Brandon managed a couple base runners on a hit and batter hit by a pitch, but they would not score.

Neither team scored in the 3rd inning.  In the top of the 4th, the Dragons got a 1-out single by Sinclair, who then stole 2nd.  Kylee Pierce launched a bomb into the parking lot past the left field fence, her 3rd homer of the season.  With 2 outs Natalie Oldrham and Allison Dusseau singled, but would be stranded as the inning ended with Creek up 6-1.  A Brandon runner reached on an error, but 3 strikeouts later ended that threat.

Sydney Scott led of the 5th with a double for Creek, but did not score. Brandon managed their 2nd hit of the game, but did not score either.  The Dragons and Brandon went down in order in the 6th.  Madison Majestic led off the 7th with a single for Creek.  She scored on a fielders choice and stolen base to extend the lead to 7-1 before the inning ended.  Another 3 strikeout inning for Brandon ended the game giving Creek the victory.

Madisen Henry pitched a 2 hit complete game in which the only run was unearned with 11 strikeouts. Natalie Oldrham had 2 hits including a Home Run, 3 RBIs and scored.  Kylee Pierce had 2 hits including a Home Run, 2 RBIs and scored twice.  Allison Dusseau had 2 hits.  Sydney Scott had 2 hits including a Double.  Jessica Verran had a hit and scored.  Ella Sinclair had a hit and scored.

Swartz Creek 4  Brandon 2

In the 2nd game Ella Sinclair singled to lead off the game, but was caught stealing.  Kylee Pierce followed with a single.  Allison Dusseau reached base on an error that moved Pierce to 2nd base.  Both runners advanced on a passed ball, then Pierce scored on another passed ball with Dusseau moving to 3rd base.  Natalie Oldrham walked, then stole 2nd base.  Jessica Verran ripped a single up the middle scoring both Dusseau and Oldrham.  Sydney Scott singled with 2 outs moving Verran to 3rd base, but they would be stranded.  The Dragons took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 1st.  Brandon was retired in order.

The Dragons managed a couple runners with 2 outs in the 2nd inning with Oldrham walking again and a single by Dusseau, but could not score.  A hit and an error gave Brandon a couple runners, but they would be kept from scoring as well.  Scott had a 1-out single in the 3rd, but did not score.  Brandon managed a base runner who reached base on an error, but she would not score either.

With 1 out Pierce reached base on an error in the 4th inning.  A double by Dusseau scored Pierce extending the Dragons lead to 4-0 before the inning ended.  Brandon was set down in order.  Majestic led off with a single in the 5th inning, but would not score.  Brandon was retired in order again in the bottom of the 5th.

Pierce reached base on an error followed by another hit by Dusseau in the 6th, but both would be stranded.  2 hits and a sac bunt put Brandon on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 6th as the inning ended with the Dragons up 4-1.  The Dragons were set down in order in the top of the 7th inning.  Brandon got their lead off batter on as she was hit by a pitch.  A sac bunt moved her to 2nd base with 1 out.  The next batter struckout.  With 2 outs an error scored the runner cutting the lead to 4-2, but the next batter hit a soft liner up the middle that was caught by Ella Sinclair to end the game.

Madisen Henry pitched the complete game for the Dragons, again allowing no earned runs.  She piled up another 10 strikeouts, giving her 21 on the day.  She allowed just 4 hits in the nightcap.  Allison Dusseau had 3 hits including a Double, RBI and scored.  Sydney Scott had 2 hits.  Jessica Verran had a hit and 2 RBIs.  Ella Sinclair and Madison Majestic each had a hit.  Pierce, who hit the ball hard all day, scored twice.
